Delete your account
Last updated:
This page explains how to have your GamePile account — and everything stored against it — permanently deleted. It applies to the GamePile app for Android and iOS and to this website, developed by Mariusz Górski.
1. How to request deletion
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Delete my account".
Please send it from the email address the account uses. That is what lets us confirm the request is genuinely yours — if you no longer have access to that address, write anyway and we will ask you to verify ownership another way before anything is deleted.
You do not need to give a reason, and you will not be asked to justify the request.
If you can still sign in, you do not need to write anything. In the app, open your profile and choose Delete account; on the web, use the Delete account section of your personal panel. Both send the same request for you, and it leads to the same hand-performed deletion, within the same 30 days.
2. What gets deleted
Everything below is removed outright from the database. This is a permanent deletion, not a hidden or deactivated account, and it cannot be undone:
- Your account record — email address, password hash, account status, and, for an account created before sign-up moved into the app, the note sent with the original access request.
- Your profile — gamertag, avatar, card style, profile visibility, and the aging preference.
- Your entire game library — every playthrough and its full event history: games, which screen they sat on, completion details, retirement reasons, your review scores and notes, poke activity, and your diary entries, public and private.
- Your discovery activity — every card you added, deferred, or dismissed, along with your taste and filter preferences.
- Your social data — confirmed friendships and any pending friend requests, the games you recommended to friends and the ones they recommended to you, with their notes, and every block you placed or that named you — in either direction.
- Reports you filed and reports about you, and the record of your deletion request.
- Any outstanding password reset tokens.
3. What remains afterwards
Nothing personal to you is kept in the app's database once the deletion runs, apart from the server logs described below. A few things sit outside that database or outside our control:
- Emails already sent to you — the welcome message, password resets, and any notices about your account — remain in our email provider's records under its own retention schedule.
- Notices already emailed to the developer stay in the developer's mailbox: your deletion request, and any report you filed or that named you. The records behind them are deleted; messages already delivered are not.
- Server logs record your user id against the requests you made and the errors they caused. They are kept for the short fixed period our privacy policy states, and then deleted automatically.
- Connection logs at our hosting provider may persist briefly at the infrastructure level before rotating.
- Cached game information from IGDB, HowLongToBeat, and RAWG stays, because it describes games rather than people and is not personal data.
4. How long it takes
Your request will be carried out within 30 days, and in practice usually much sooner. We will email you to confirm once it is done.
However the request reaches us — by email, from the web panel, or from the app — the deletion itself is carried out by hand by the developer, which is why it can take up to that period rather than happening instantly. Asking again does not extend it: the period runs from your first request.
5. Want a copy of your data first?
Deletion is irreversible, so you may want a copy of your data first. If you can sign in, the Import/Export data section of the web panel downloads your whole record as a single file. If you cannot, say so in the same email and we will send you a copy before anything is deleted. This is your GDPR right to data portability, and asking for it does not delay the deletion by more than the time it takes to prepare the export.
6. Questions
Anything unclear, or a request you would rather discuss first: [email protected]. Our full privacy policy explains what is collected and why.
